Police from G Division (Essequibo Islands and Coast) have unearthed 168 grams of cannabis from the house and yard of a Dartmouth, Essequibo Coast resident during a raid on October 21.
The house of 29-year-old Sherville Clarke was visited by Police ranks who found a quantity of seeds and leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa (ganja) under a mattress. When Police approached Clarke, he attempted to escape.
A search was also carried out in the yard next to the bathroom and a black plastic bag was found which contained 17 green ziplock plastic bags and 16 blue ziplock plastic bags. Each contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Clarke was told of the offence and was cautioned where he admitted his guilt. Police then observed that behind the bathroom, there was a small opening in the fence where there was a track that led to a clump of bushes about five feet away from the fence. They then followed the track and found a black plastic bag containing a transparent plastic bottle with a red cover. Inside the bottle was a black plastic bag which contained 89 green ziplock plastic bags containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems. Clarke was arrested and taken to the Anna Regina Police Station where the transparent plastic bags were weighed and their contents amounted to 168 grams.
